The Hasso Plattner Institut was founded 20 years ago with the aim of nurturing digital engineering. We celebrated this with a huge conference on the topic of Designing Digital Transformation. Besides the expanding academic curriculum in IT systems engineering, data engineering, digital health and cybersecurity, we also developed into the epicentre of Design Thinking in Europe. With the HPI School of Design Thinking we train (international) students in Design Thinking,  and with the HPI Academy we offer professional education for companies and organisations worldwide.

With the HPI Academy we have been accompanying companies and organisations with Design Thinking to tackle the topics of innovation, digitalisation and transformation for more then 10 years. At the conference Selina Mayer and I moderated an exciting and honest discussion about the challenges of innovation and digitalisation with three of our long-term clients, who vary with respect to the size of their companies, industries (mobility, pharma and publishing sector) and areas of responsibility (production, innovation and management of a company). All three of these leaders have in common that they do not shy away when it gets difficult,  and treat employees and challenges with a human-centered approach. I am very happy that they made our session so special: a big thank you to Andreas Bürgler (Leiter Produktionsmanagement DB Station & Service AG), Gabriele Schmidt (CEO, Pons GmbH) and Ute Conradi (Global Innovation Accelerator CoE Lead, UCB BIOSCIENCES GmbH).
